Godrej Devanahalli Metro
The Bangalore Airport Metro, officially known as the Blue Line or the ORR-Airport Metro Line, is a major project under the Namma Metro network. It aims to improve connectivity between Bengaluru and the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA). Spans a total length of 58.19 kilometers and contains 32 stations. This line is designed to reduce traffic congestion and provide a great transit option for both residents and visitors.
Project Phases
The Blue Line is being developed in two primary phases.
- Phase 2A: This phase covers the stretch from Central Silk Board to Krishnarajapura (KR Puram), aligning along the eastern section of the Outer Ring Road (ORR).
- Phase 2B: Extending from KR Puram to KIA, this phase traverses the northern section of the ORR before proceeding along Airport Road to the airport.
The line is predominantly elevated, with a brief underground segment near the Yelahanka Airforce base and an at-grade section closer to the airport. Major interchanges in the line include KR Puram (with the Purple Line), Central Silk Board (with the Yellow Line), and Nagawara (with the Pink Line). It makes the travelling easier to any part of the city.
Construction Milestones and Timeline
- Phase 2A: It is started in August 2021, which connects from the Central Silk Board to KR Puram.
- Phase 2B: It has been initiated in February 2022, connecting the KR Puram to KIA stretch.
The project is expected for completion by June 2026.
